About Bavisi Notaries
Francesca Bavisi is a solicitor with experience in residential and commercial conveyancing, family and private client work. She was admitted as a Notary Public in 2023 and founded Bavisi Notaries
What is a Notary Public
A Notary Public is authorised to authenticate documents for them to be used abroad. They are essentially a specialist qualified lawyer and are a member of the oldest branch in the legal profession in the UK. In England and Wales, they are appointed by the Master of the Faculties through the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The work of a Notary Public involves a high precision of accuracy as they owe a duty of care to anyone who relies on the notarised document, this could be the Government or officials of the foreign country or the client themselves. A notary must ensure that they have holistically looked at the transaction and have tried to mitigate any of the risks involved.
Professional Indemnity Insurance
At the present time Bavisi Notaries has Professional Indemnity Cover for not less than £1 million per claim.
The notarial practice is regulated through the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury whose address is:
The Faculty Office, 1, The Sanctuary, Westminster, London , SW1P 3JT;

Legalisation and Apostille of Documentation
Bavisi Notaries is able to ensure that documents are legalised quickly as possible for you. There are two types of legalisation; legalisation by apostille and consulate legalisation.
Legalisation by apostille
Documents to be used in countries that have ratified the Hague Convention dated the 5th October 1961 which regulate the legalisation of public documents will only require legalisation by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Developmental Office. The FCDO offers Premium Same -Day or Standard Services. Bavisi Notaries will work with you to find which is the most appropriate for you.
Premium Same Day Service
This service is when the documents are delivered to the FCDO Legalisation Office in Central London by hand. Using the premium service means that if a document is delivered in the morning should be returned to me by the close of business on the same day. This is dependent on the normal functioning of the FCDO.
Standard Service
This service is when documents are delivered by hand to the FCDO’s office Milton Keynes. The document should be returned back to me within 3-5 working days dependent on the normal functioning of the FCDO.
Consulate Legalisation
Consulate legalisation is applicable when documents are to be used in countries who have not ratified the Hague Convention of 5th October 1961. Documents will have to be legalised by the Consulate of the relevant country. In most instances an Apostille will be required first before Consular Legalisation can be affixed.
